I’d like to invite you to take part in a new project I’ve been working on. It launches today, and—if we can recruit enough people like you to help us make it successful—it will help some disadvantaged kids get the support they need to finish high school.
See, together with the (awesome , super-sparky and ultra-generous) folks at Recruiting Social, I’m helping to build a shared lunch table for students at the Vancouver School Board’s Pinnacle alternative school program.
Why? Well, here’s what one of the students recently told Recruiting Social founder Chad MacRae:
“We have no place to sit and get to know each other.”
If you’ve never heard of it, the Pinnacle program serves high school students receiving support from social workers, probation officers, or mental health workers. Most of the kids are disadvantaged and struggling to pursue their education. The VSB offers them a hot meal program, because otherwise most would go without breakfast or lunch.
What we need
We’re looking to build a 12-foot reclaimed-wood table so students and staff to sit and eat lunch together. Master craftsman and owner of Union Wood Co. is contributing the design, labour, and delivery. We just need to raise $3,315 to purchase the materials and ten chairs.
3 things you can do to help
Spend a minute or two learning a little more about the students at Pinnacle school and why a big beautiful new lunch table could help them find the support they need to complete high school.
It’ll literally take just 5 seconds to tweet about it. If you’re feeling a little more ambitious, share the campaign page with your colleagues, friends and family, or steal and post any of these images to your favourite social network:
$1, $10, $20—Any amount is a huge help. There are cool perks too (you could even have your or your company’s name laser etched on the table). School starts next week, so we have no time to lose.
This is the start of my 10% giving project
This campaign marks the start of something new I’m doing: donating 10% of my time (a half a day every week) to work on writing and communications projects for worthwhile causes.
If you know of any that could use a little copywriting help, please let me know.
Oh, and thank you!
